Jackie Baillie has congratulated West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare after the charity was awarded £27,500 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The foodbank, which is based in Dumbarton, operates across the West Dunbartonshire area, delivering food parcels and other essentials to vulnerable members of the community.

The money will be used to continue their work which also involves providing fuel top up vouchers, electric blankets, air fryers and multi-cookers.

Jackie Baillie said: “When West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare launched 10 years ago, no-one expected the levels of demand to reach where they are now.

“It is heartbreaking that people are struggling to put food on their table and to keep their homes warm. I thank the staff and volunteers at West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare for their ongoing work to help reach those who need it the most.

“I am delighted that the National Lottery has chosen to give such a generous grant to this charity and hope that it will ease the financial burden on Foodshare while costs are increasing.”
