Anas Sarwar attended Dumbarton Football Club’s match with Forfar Athletic on Saturday after visiting a special exhibition to mark the club’s 150th anniversary.
Jackie Baillie MSP was joined by Scottish Labour leader, Anas Sarwar, at the Sons’ home match on Saturday which ended in a 2-2 draw, cementing Dumbarton’s place at the top of Scottish League 2.
Prior to attending the match, the duo were at Dumbarton Library where there is a special exhibition currently running to mark the 150th anniversary of the club.
They were met there by David Carson and David Brownlee of Sons Supporters Trust who gave them a tour of the exhibits and regaled them with stories about the history of the club.
Jackie Baillie said: “It was a pleasure to attend both the exhibition and the match on Saturday. The result keeps Dumbarton at the top of the league after a great start to the season.
“It was nice to speak to both fans and officials throughout the day, including manager Stevie Farrell. It was clear to see the love and passion for Dumbarton from all her supporters, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles to see the team play, including someone from the Isle of Man.”
Anas Sarwar said: “I was at Dumbarton FC this weekend to celebrate their 150th anniversary at the heart of their community. I was joined by local MSP Jackie Baillie.
“As the eyes of the world turn towards the World Cup in Qatar, we must never forget that it is local football clubs that are the lifeblood of the sport.
“Beyond the headlines and the glitz, it is clubs like Dumbarton, rooted in their communities, that are the essence of football.”
