Commenting after the Fiscal Implications of COVID-19 debate in the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Labour finance spokesperson Jackie Baillie said: “We welcome the cross-party support for Scottish Labour’s amendment this evening. As MSPs have now agreed, it is crucial that all parties and levels of government should continue to work collaboratively and transparently on the collective fiscal response, and the Scottish Government must bring forward a package of measures to restart the economy.
“The implications of the Covid-19 pandemic will be far reaching. We have seen the extraordinary pressures placed on our health and social care system and the personal challenges faced by individuals and families, and we are now starting to see the economic devastation and loss of jobs which will impact on every community across Scotland.
“Our primary objective should be to apply the maximum resources to rebooting the Scottish economy. That means marshalling the resources of both the UK and Scottish governments. But as well as resources, we need a plan – and the reality is that plan needs to be integrated across the different levels of government.”
