The Scottish Government has announced that it has come to an agreement with the UK Government to halt the transfer of social security powers and responsibilities from Westminster to Holyrood due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jackie Baillie MSP said:
“I understand that there will be considerable disappointment felt by many due to this halt. There have been previous delays regarding this transfer of powers and I am sure all affected will appreciate that the current delay is out with government control.
“I commend the Scottish and UK Governments for working together and coming to a consensus on the delivery of social security. This level of co-operation is very welcome to see.
“Claims for Universal Credit and other emergency funds have risen exponentially as a result of the current crisis. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of individuals across the UK should be the priority of both Governments and I welcome then working together to achieve this.”
