Dumbarton councillor David McBride has set out his ambition to see a new Dumbarton Health Centre relocated to the heart of the town centre.

Both Councillor McBride along with his Labour colleagues Gurpreet Singh Johal and Dumbarton constituency MSP Jackie Baillie are urging members of the public, traders and people who work in the town to take part in an ongoing consultation following the award of Levelling Up funding worth £20million.

They believe that, at the heart of the plans, should be a brand new Dumbarton Health Centre which will provide patients with a fit-for-purpose facility in closer proximity to transport links, West Dunbartonshire Council offices and public amenities such as the library.

Councillor McBride said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bring the health centre into the heart of Dumbarton.

“The current health centre is no longer fit-for-purpose but making this bold move will allow us to bring it closer to shops, amenities and transport links which will help both patients and staff. It will drive footfall into the town which would be a huge boost for businesses.

“The regeneration of Dumbarton is badly-needed and people are desperate to see that.

“It’s vital that the community have their say on the plans for Dumbarton town centre and I would encourage people to give their feedback.”

Dumbarton constituency MSP, Jackie Baillie said: “Dumbarton town centre is in desperate need of an overhaul and relocating the health centre will be beneficial for staff, patients and local businesses by providing modern new premises and increasing the number of people in the town.

“I will write to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the Scottish Government to push for this to happen and to secure the necessary funding.

“I would urge people who stay in Dumbarton, who work here and trade here to make sure that they take the opportunity to give their opinion on the redevelopment of the town centre.”
