INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY
INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY

Jackie Baillie is supporting International Nurses Day (May 12th) when she will be leading a debate in the Scottish Parliament.

The Dumbarton constituency MSP and Scottish Labour’s health and social care spokesperson will host a debate during which she will pay tribute to the nursing workforce who have dedicated their lives to looking after other people.

Jackie Baillie said: “I hear first-hand on a daily basis how valuable nurses are throughout Scotland and in particular in my own constituency, either working out of GP practices, in the community or at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

“Throughout the Covid pandemic, nurses have been at the forefront of the health service, putting their own health and welfare on the line to care for others.

“It is important that we recognise the effort that they make to care for patients and ensure they are properly valued and get the treatment that they deserve.

“Unfortunately the nursing workforce has been let down by years of underfunding from this SNP Government and they are being pushed to the limit as they struggle to cover shifts.

“We must protect our nurses at all costs and invest properly in recruiting more as they are the lifeblood of our national health service.

“I look forward to hosting the debate on Thursday to mark International Nurses Day to thank them for caring.”
