Jackie Baillie has welcomed the move not to extend the Covid certification scheme as the First Minister announces that protections put in place late last year to help stem the spread of Omicron will be lifted.

The First Minister has announced this afternoon (Tuesday) that most of the remaining restrictions in place will be removed from next Monday.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that there would be no extension to the Covid passport scheme which was being considered in a bid to curb infections.

Dumbarton constituency MSP Ms Baillie however expressed concern that businesses aren’t being paid funds as quickly as they should, despite promises from the First Minister.

Jackie Baillie said: “It is very welcome news for businesses in West Dunbartonshire, Helensburgh and Lomond who have been waiting anxiously to find out if they would have to implement these measures, that the Covid certification scheme will not be extended.

“I, however, remain concerned that the financial support which has been promised by the SNP government is still not getting to people who need it in a timely manner. This is preventing people from being able to pay their bills at a time when they are already struggling.

“I am pleased that steps are being taken to reverse limitations on hospitality and social interactions which are vital for the wellbeing of my constituents and indeed the economic recovery of the Dumbarton constituency.

“I thank people locally for their compliance throughout this difficult period and urge citizens to continue to be cautious and vigilant, including testing on a regular basis, particularly when planning to meet with others.”
