Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton Constituency, has praised the action that many local people have taken to tackle the climate emergency.

Jackie Baillie has said that Scotland must lead by example and that climate action must start at home as the COP26 UN climate summit kicks off in Glasgow.

Jackie has praised the Scottish Youth Parliament’s ‘The Moment’ movement, which many local young people have taken part in. ‘The Moment’ has clearly set out the key priorities that young people have for COP26 and beyond. Jackie Baillie took part in a Q&A session with local young people and answered questions on how best to tackle the climate emergency on both a local and national level.

Jackie Baillie MSP said:

“The work that local people have been doing to tackle climate change, including many young people, should act as an inspiration to the rest of us.

“COP26 is our best last chance to make a real difference to our world and I cannot stress enough just how vital it is that this summit is a success.

“Leading by example in Scotland means investing in local Green Jobs, upgrading the energy efficiency of homes without placing the burden on low income households and increasing the availability of public transport – not cutting it.

“There is much more that we should challenge governments here and across the world to do, but we also have an individual responsibility to step up and reduce our carbon footprint. We all need to take action to protect the planet for future generations.”
