Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton Constituency, has raised the problems that with the COVID-19 vaccine booster programme for mainland Argyll and Bute residents, particularly those in Helensburgh & Lomond.

Jackie Baillie raised the fact that booster vaccine clinics have yet to be rolled out on mainland Argyll and Bute which means many individuals, including the majority of over 80s, now have less protection from COVID-19 because it has been over six months since they received their second dose.

For those who have been doubly vaccinated, experts suggest that protection from Covid will last for about 5 to 6 months. The JCVI have recommended that boosters are given 6 months after a second vaccination.

The First Minister gave a reassurance that she would look into the specific problems in Argyll and Bute.

Jackie Baillie MSP said:

“It is unacceptable that elderly and vulnerable people are being left unprotected by NHS Highland whilst individuals elsewhere are being given their boosters. It is nothing short of a postcode lottery but with potentially serious consequences.

“Many local people have contacted me with their concerns. I have written to NHS Highland and the Argyll & Bute Health & Social Care Partnership more than once about this and it is disappointing that they have not yet responded.

“The Scottish Government must act urgently to ensure that the booster programme is rolled out swiftly so that protection is given to those who need it. This is an issue that I will continue to push the health board and government on until local people receive their booster.”
