Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton Constituency and convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Learning Disability, has given her support to ENABLE Scotland’s ‘Our Voice, Our Rights’ campaign.

The campaign calls for a Commissioner to make rights a reality for people with a learning disability and for those with Autism. ENABLE’s members are working alongside people who have a learning disability, people with autism and their families to campaign for much-needed change. It will form an important part of ENABLE Scotland’s ask of political parties and local candidates in this year’s Scottish Election.

The campaign has been launched jointly with the National Autistic Society Scotland and Scottish Autism.

Jackie Baillie MSP said:

“This is a fantastic campaign from ENABLE Scotland, National Autistic Society Scotland and Scottish Autism which I am excited to support and get involved in.

“There are 120,000 people with a learning disability and 56,000 people with autism across Scotland. Too many people are struggling to access their basic rights across education, health, social care, and community services – despite polices, legislation and multiple regulators being in place. Scotland can, and must, do better.

“I wish ENABLE all the best in this worthwhile campaign and encourage every political party to support this cause and commit to taking action in the next parliament.”
