Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton constituency, has welcomed the introduction of the Covid-19 testing unit at the Meadowbank Centre in Dumbarton but has said that it is vital that the service is made permanent and full time.
The service will open from today – 3 September 2020 – and will operate on alternate days from 10am to 5pm by appointment only. Jackie Baillie has repeatedly called on the Scottish Government to open a permanent testing unit within her constituency due to the number of cases that have been confirmed here in recent weeks. She has been contacted by a number of constituents who have been advised to travel as far as Edinburgh, Dunoon and Prestwick Airport to access a Covid-19 test for themselves and their children.
Jackie Baillie MSP said:
“The arrival of the mobile testing unit at the Meadowbank Centre will definitely come as welcome news to the many constituents who have been forced to make lengthy and expensive trips to access a Covid-19 test.
“However, the Scottish Government is fully aware of the fact that West Dunbartonshire is one of the hardest hit areas by this virus. If we are serious about beating it and about testing and protecting the local population then we need a testing unit to be a permanent fixture in our community.
“I have urged Nicola Sturgeon to make the service permanent and full-time and will continue to do so until local people have the access that they need to get tested and keep themselves and others safe.”
