Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton Constituency, has called on Nicola Sturgeon to put an end to the delays in getting test results in the current ‘Test and Protect’ system.
This follows reports from social care workers who were experiencing significant delays in receiving Covid-19 test results. In turn, this meant that they were unable to return to work. Care homes are being left with a depleted workforce and residents are not receiving the level of care and attention that they need.
Jackie Baillie has said that the current delays are only likely to worsen as pressures on the health service increase this winter. She has welcomed the commitment to open a mobile testing unit in Dumbarton, following new restrictions due to the level of coronavirus in the community, but has asked the First Minister for a permanent testing facility within the community.
Jackie Baillie MSP said:
“The fact that vital frontline workers are being forced to stay at home because of significant delays to test results being sent out is completely unacceptable.
“For Test and Protect to actually protect members of the public, there needs to be a much faster and more efficient turnaround process.
“I welcome the commitment to open up a Mobile Testing Unit in Dumbarton. However, our community has been hit particularly hard by this virus and nothing less than a fully operational and permanent local testing service is enough. I will continue to fight for this until it has been opened and local people have easy access to both tests and results.”
