Yesterday during General Questions at the Scottish Parliament, Jackie Baillie continued to pressure the Scottish Government to restore the much-needed Out of Hours Service at the Vale of Leven hospital.

In the chamber, Jackie questioned Jeane Freeman, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, and asked her why a GP locally organised and delivered service had been ignored by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She also renewed her calls for the sacking of the Chair and Chief Executive of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde due to their level of incompetence to staff and patients at the Vale of Leven.

Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, said:

“Time and time again, I have asked Nicola Sturgeon and her health secretary to show some leadership and act to save the Out of Hours service at the Vale – and time and time again, the health board, of which they are in charge, have done nothing.

“I am calling for the restoration of the full Out of Hours service as well as the immediate sacking of the Chair and Chief Executive of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Patients are suffering and local residents, many of them elderly, are having to travel as much as 40 miles, if you live on the Peninsula, to be seen by a GP.

“The situation at the Vale of Leven shows that the Chair and Chief Executive are not fit to make decisions and that this SNP Government has lost all control when it comes to NHS management.”
