Local MSP Jackie Baillie visited Oakbank retirement housing development in Alexandria on Saturday to help raise funds for the residents’ social fund

The event coincided with Volunteers Week to celebrate the contribution of volunteers at the Bank Street complex who help by befriending residents and organising lunch clubs, games sessions and social evenings. Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK -; and it took place this year from 1-12 June 2016.

The Dumbarton and Vale MSP is pictured above with residents Michael Docherty, Ann McLean, Isa Gallardi, Celine Grant, Mina McGonagle, Morag Campbell, Renen Dunn and Myra Black. The event raised a total of £1174.50.

The 32-flat development in Alexandria is run by Bield Housing Association, one of the largest housing and care providers in Scotland for older people who want to live independently in their own home.

Jackie said:

“Bield does an excellent job at all of its sites across Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven to support older people living independently in their own homes and I was delighted to be back at Oakbank to catch up with the residents.

“Volunteers Week is an important opportunity to thank volunteers for everything they do in the local community and Bield’s team at Oakbank are no exception. The fundraising day was a great success and will help support the volunteers to arrange a whole range of social activities for residents at Oakbank
