Today, thousands of trade union activists and Scottish Labour members will gather in Glasgow for the STUC rally against the Tory Trade Union Bill.

This bill is a nasty and pernicious piece of legislation that aims to weaken and ultimately break the collective voice of workers and fundamentally challenge the right to take industrial action. Please click here to join almost 350,000 people across the UK who have signed our petition against the bill.

As a lifelong trade union member, I am standing shoulder to shoulder with workers and have supported calls for the SNP Government to refuse to co-operate with the the legislation. Labour councils in the West of Scotland, working with their trade union partners, have led the way in putting pressure on the SNP to use its powers to prevent Scottish public bodies being affected by the draconian measures in the bill.

The bill is both unnecessary and unhelpful – it is nothing more than an ideologically driven attempt by the Tories to attack workers by removing their rights and undermining their representatives.  There is no justification for it -; industrial disputes are at a historically low level and introducing thresholds for ballots and treating abstentions as ‘no’ votes for industrial action is simply anti-democratic.

The movement against the Trade Union Bill is growing -; if you haven’t already, please sign our petition to help stop
