Scotland’s disabled people are being failed by the Nationalists at Holyrood and the Coalition in Westminster, Scottish Labour has argued today.

Jackie said:

“For many months, disabled people, their families and carers have endured hardship, hostility and fear as a result of failed policies at Holyrood and Westminster.

“This Tory/Lib Dem coalition has not the first idea about what it is to be disabled, and are attempting to balance the books on the backs of the vulnerable  rather than the millionaires sitting around the cabinet table.

“Meanwhile, The Scottish Government is failing to use the powers it has to improve the lives of disabled Scots. Real terms cuts in the housing adaptations budget, uncertainty over the Independent Living Fund and increased care charging have all happened on this Government’s watch, and they must answer for that.

“With the Scottish Government slashing resources to local authorities many are now charging for essential care to shore up the huge budget cuts caused by the underfunded council tax freeze.
